In the final days of December, Governor Hochul acted upon nine long term care-related bills that were passed by the Legislature in 2023. LeadingAge NY provides a review of these bills, along with related writings and outcomes.

The new law will take effect Jan. 1, 2025 and will update state code to include standards for emergency planning and preparedness for those living with a disability in a high-rise building.

Modifications to existing requirements are aimed at reducing contract staff utilization.

DOH will be issuing notices to small groups of nursing homes directing them to complete their annual online infection prevention survey on a phased basis beginning in January 2024. Facilities that have low ratings on inspections, quality measures, or staffing; Special Focus Facilities; and Special Focus Candidates will be prioritized for surveys early in the year. Facilities will have 30 days from the issuance of their notice to submit the online survey.

DOH also provides guidance on addressing appeals filed by prior owners.

DOH has released a Request for Applications for funding under the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, Rounds IV and V, to support health information technology, cybersecurity, and telehealth transformation.
