Tracking COVID-19 Uptick

While hospital admission rates for COVID-19, the primary way for tracking severity and prevalence of infections, remain low, latest figures reflect an upward trend. For the week ending Aug. 8th, 100 nursing homes and Assisted Living/Adult Care Facilities (AL/ACF) reported residents with a new COVID diagnosis.  Of those 100, 56 also reported newly diagnosed staff.  Another 60 facilities reported newly diagnosed staff but no newly diagnosed residents.   Approximately ten percent of homes in upstate regions reported at least one newly positive resident or staff member.  Downstate, the figure was 17 percent.  The statewide count of newly positive nursing home and ACF/AL residents was 347 for the week, up from the prior week’s count of 235.  Further information on data sources and links to state COVID-19 resources, including hospitalization rates, are available here.
