Modern Diagnostic Laboratory Services Subject to Amended DOH Order

The Department of Health (DOH) is alerting all providers that it has amended its summary order from May 22nd regarding laboratory services delivered by Modern Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc. (MDL). On May 22nd, the Department issued an order directing MDL to cease providing laboratory services after an investigation by the Department's Wadsworth Center Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program determined that certain tests were not reliable and, in some instances, were "falsely reported." The following day, the Department issued an amended order allowing the lab to resume testing pursuant to existing contracts under the supervision of an independent consultant. It also ordered MDL to cease any inappropriate testing and reporting practices. A memorandum to providers summarizes the status of MDL's lab services and provides alternative laboratory providers.
