Don’t Miss Training on Upcoming NHSN Reporting Changes

Nursing homes have a choice of two dates to learn about upcoming changes to weekly COVID-19 reporting done through the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expected to update the modules and streamline some of the mandatory reporting starting in June. The Therapeutics pathway will be eliminated, and several questions will be removed from the remaining Surveillance Module pathways. An educational session to review these upcoming changes will be provided on Thurs., June 1st at 2 p.m. (register here) and again on Wed., June 7th at 1 p.m. (register here). Both sessions will provide the same content.

A recent email from the CDC to NHSN users regarding health care personnel COVID-19 vaccination data reporting refers to reporting requirements that are less frequent than weekly. Please note that the message is specifically aimed at those “reporting healthcare personnel COVID-19 vaccination data through the NHSN Healthcare Personnel Safety (HPS) component.” While several provider types including hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs), and long term acute care hospitals (LTACHs) report health care personnel COVID-19 vaccination data through the HPS, nursing homes report staff and resident COVID-19 immunizations through the Long Term Care Facility Component. Although we urge members to attend one of the NHSN training sessions for all of the details, we expect that the weekly reporting of staff and resident COVID-19 immunizations (as well as of other COVID-19 data through the Surveillance Pathways) will continue.
