CMS Releases Final MDS RAI Manual

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the final version of the Long-Term Care Facility Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) 3.0 User’s Manual Version 1.18.11. The changes have been highlighted in red. There are over 400 more pages in this document as compared to the previous manual. Also released is a change document that highlights the changes from draft (April 1, 2023) to final (Aug. 22, 2023). The modifications include substantive and editing corrections. The implementation date of these new materials is Oct. 1, 2023, just weeks away. Communities are urged to review what training has been completed and identify what training is needed for each member of the team so that everyone understands their role.
