Is This Supplemental Funding Notice for $200 a Mistake?

Nursing homes who received safe staffing funding (State-share) in 2023 were notified on Jan. 12th that a letter regarding a supplemental payment had been posted for them on the Health Commerce Document Management System (HCDMS). The letter indicates the amount, which totals approximately $1.50 per certified bed, and explains that the reason for the payment is that there was some leftover safe staffing funding remaining after the amount that the State had set aside for hospital-based homes had been distributed. This leftover State-share funding was distributed as a supplement to free-standing homes who had received safe staffing funding in March 2023. The payment will be in the Medicaid check released Jan. 31st.

Meanwhile, nursing homes continue to wait for $140 million in supplemental payments that represent the reinvestment of funds collected through the non-reimbursable 0.8 percent assessment and which is usually released in December. This funding is in executive review with no set release date. LeadingAge NY will keep members apprised of any developments regarding this funding as well as payment adjustments related to the 2022 Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI).
