Medicaid Spousal Impoverishment Income and Resource Allowances Increase in 2023

The Department of Health (DOH) posted the 2023 community spouse resource allowance, community spouse monthly income allowance, and family member monthly allowance in the February 2023 Medicaid Update, released last week. These allowances apply to the spouses of Medicaid beneficiaries who are enrolled in a Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) plan, participants in certain home and community-based services (HCBS) waivers, or residents of nursing homes.

The maximum community spouse resource allowance is $148,620.00 as of Jan. 1, 2023, and the minimum resource allowance is $74,820.00. The maximum community spouse minimum monthly maintenance needs allowance is now $3,715.50, and the maximum family member monthly allowance is $822.00.

The Medicaid Update also includes the "Information Notice to Couples with an Institutionalized Spouse," which the provider must print and distribute to the beneficiary at the time the provider begins to deliver services to the beneficiary.
