Long Island Transition from Modivcare to MAS Transportation Is in Process

Long term care providers on Long Island should note that non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) for residents and registrants has been transitioned from Modivcare to Medical Answering Service (MAS) as of Dec. 1st. All providers should be in contact with MAS to establish a portal in the MAS system. All fee-for-service Modivcare trips were scheduled to be transferred over to MAS by Dec. 1st. The transition does not impact Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) arranged transportation.

The Department of Health (DOH) and MAS held a stakeholder webinar recently for Long Island medical providers on the transition. The meeting recording is available here. Current transportation vendors, resident information, trip times, locations, and dates, at this time, should have transferred over to the MAS system. All current transportation vendors remain in place.

Adult day health care (ADHC) programs are working their way through kinks in the system. Initially, trips were not visible from the provider end in the MAS portal. With this in mind, all Long Island providers should establish their MAS accounts and confirm their existing scheduled trips. Providers are also encouraged to test initiating trips. When in doubt, reach out to MAS if you have questions and to your regular transportation vendors to confirm trips. LeadingAge NY encourages members to review the MAS website, which has many tutorials and more information about using the system, as well as review the stakeholder meeting recording above.

Please test out the system and ensure that your scheduled trips and standing orders are intact. Questions should be directed to the MAS contact for long term care providers on Long Island – Saleha Shaikh, 718-912-1127, sshaikh@medanswering.com.
