DOH Renews E-Prescribing Waiver

The Department of Health (DOH) issued a letter on Tues., Oct. 29th informing providers of a blanket waiver of electronic prescribing requirements for nursing homes and residential health care facilities. The new blanket waiver supersedes the previous waiver and is effective from Nov. 1, 2019 through Oct. 31, 2020.

While LeadingAge NY is pleased that the State agreed to the request for a continued waiver, we continue to seek a permanent solution on this issue. During the 2019 Legislative Session, the Legislature passed A.1034-A (Gottfried)/S.4183 (Rivera), requiring that the mandatory electronic prescribing system accommodate the nursing home medication administration system for another two years. This bill was passed in both houses but has not yet been signed by the Governor.

We will continue our efforts and keep you informed of future progress on e-prescribing.
