DOH Issues Nursing Home Administrator Registration Renewal Reminder

The Department of Health (DOH) Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators has notified LeadingAge NY that it is sending out periodic email reminders to nursing home administrators to register for the 2020-2021 period. The below announcement was distributed to administrators of record (AORs).

Contact: Mary Wassel, mwassel@leadingageny.org, 518-728-2365

------

Dear Nursing Home Administrator,

Our records indicate that you are the administrator of record (AOR). This is a reminder of the expiration date of your nursing home administrator license registration on December 31, 2019. We will be sending out friendly reminder emails periodically until we receive your registration.

Section 2896-g(5) of the New York State Public Health Law states that a practicing nursing home administrator who fails to apply and qualify for registration before the first day of the next ensuing biennial registration period shall be an illegal practitioner whose license may be suspended or revoked and who may be subjected to a civil penalty, censured or reprimanded by the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. All administrator of records that filed after the December 31, 2017 due date for the 2018-2019 registration period were referred. To date, we have received over 200 registrations from AORs for the 2020-2021 period and would like to continue receiving additional registrations as soon as possible to avoid referring illegal practitioners to the Board during this registration period.

Please use the link below to access the application and follow the directions for “Registration Renewal”. A new PDF fillable application replaces the previous Word Application for Registration as a Nursing Home Administrator. Your application may be typed and saved on your computer. The application also includes directions, if you wish to become voluntary inactive.

  • Please also note that the Continuing Education Report has been updated and streamlined with an attestation.
  • The NAB number is being collected for audit but is an optional field and can be left blank. We cannot assist with finding your NAB number.
  • You may submit your registration, as soon as you have completed the 48 clock hours of qualifying continuing education. Please be advised it is recommended that these clock hours be completed over the course of the two-year period (1/1/18-12/31/19) to avoid noncompliance.
  • There is no limit on the number of distance learning/on-line course clock hours than can be claimed toward satisfying the continuing education requirement. However, the course(s) must be pre-approved by a designated continuing education provider.
  • For more information, please visit the Nursing Home Administrator web pages at:

You must print, sign and notarize the completed application, and mail along with the requisite fee ($40). The Board must approve your application prior to the expiration date of your current registration to avoid a lapse in your registered status. Your application should be submitted as quickly as possible to allow enough time to address any identified deficiencies prior to the expiration date of your current registration.

Your completed application, along with the requisite fee, should be submitted to:
