President’s FY 2019 Budget Request Proposes Deep Cuts to HUD

On Monday, President Trump released his initial fiscal year (FY) 2019 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) budget request, which would cut HUD funding by more than 18 percent compared to FY 2017-enacted levels.

Per an analysis from LeadingAge National, the President’s request “would underfund Section 202 Project Rental Assistance Contract and Project-Based Rental Assistance contract renewals, zero out the Public Housing Capital Fund…and would result in 200,000 fewer housing choice vouchers in use in FY19 that in fiscal year 2018…” Moreover, it “would zero out the HOME and Community Development Block Grant programs…eliminate the National Housing Trust Fund…[and] fund homeless assistance programs at FY17 levels, at a time when homelessness among older adults is on the rise.”

LeadingAge National’s analysis of the proposal can be accessed here.
