In comments to HUD, LeadingAge urged the agency to withdraw its proposed rule that would allow work requirements and time limits in affordable housing programs.

HUD belatedly released the Median Family Incomes and Income Limits for 2026. The Income Limits, effective May 1, 2026 instead of the usual April applicability, are used to define the terms “very low-income,” “low-income,” and “extremely low-income.”

In lieu of using a software platform for grants administration, HUD grant specialists across the country have instead begun reaching out to Resident Service Coordinator grantees directly to sign their Notices of Award.

HUD proposes rewriting its Equal Access Rule, removing gender identity protections and allowing sex verification in some single-sex settings.

LeadingAge called on HUD to withdraw a proposed rule that would remove the 30‑day eviction notice requirement, arguing the policy is critical to housing stability for older adults and program consistency for providers.

The new and updated HUD-approved VAWA forms are for owners and agents to begin using immediately. Compliance will be reviewed during MORs, with findings possible for use of outdated forms.

The current compliance date is still Jan. 1, 2027.

HUD’s proposal would impact older adults and members of their families with caregiving responsibilities, as well as the direct care workforce.
