LeadingAge NY and Regional State Partners Host Member Call with HUD Northeast Leadership

LeadingAge NY, LeadingAge Maryland, LeadingAge National, and members from states across the Northeast participated last week in the first of two calls scheduled this year with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regional leadership.

A newly formed council featuring members from affected states met in the weeks before the call to create a robust agenda aimed at facilitating productive and collaborative conversations on issues affecting affordable housing providers throughout the region, including HUD’s return to the office and “normal” operations, how to expedite renewals and other requests, and ways we can work together to address skyrocketing insurance rates. Notably, HUD officials suggested the possibility of budget-based rent increase training to be offered later this year and expressed interest in working with LeadingAge staff and membership to ensure that affordable, independent senior housing properties are not mischaracterized by insurance providers based on safety features and services offered to residents.

More detail on our first call – and information on the second call, scheduled for Oct. 5, 2022 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. – will be released in the coming weeks. LeadingAge NY members should feel free to reach out at any time with questions, concerns, or suggestions for the next agenda to ensure that these events are productive and meaningful for you.
