HUD Proposes Changes to Flood Risk Management Requirements

On April 3rd, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to address flood risk management for projects receiving HUD assistance, financing, or insurance. HUD’s proposed rule would require that certain newly constructed or substantially improved structures receiving any of various types of federal financial assistance be elevated or otherwise floodproofed.

HUD will host three live listening sessions for stakeholders to provide comments and is accepting written comments until May 23rd. More information about the proposal is available here.
