HUD Northeast Regional Leaders Meet with LeadingAge Members to Discuss NSPIRE, HOTMA, and More
Regional and Division leaders and staff representing the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the Northeast Region joined LeadingAge members on Tues., April 25th for a semi-annual call to answer member questions and review the latest news and policies affecting assisted multifamily senior housing providers.
Pre-submitted questions – developed by a council of members from states in the Northeast Region – focused on physical inspection protocols, including the upcoming transition to the National Standards for the Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) system; budgeting processes; increases in insurance costs and the inability of some providers to obtain insurance; final disbursements of COVID-19 Supplemental Payments (CSPs); opportunities under the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP); and the impending Housing Opportunities Through Modernization Act (HOTMA).
Members can find more information about changes to physical inspection standards from LeadingAge National here and find a new NSPIRE scoring calculator tool from HUD here. The calculator can help housing providers estimate their potential NSPIRE scores based on the types and locations of deficiencies that would be identified during an NSPIRE inspection. To help providers use the tool, HUD has also developed an instructional video, available here.
