New Year Brings New Minimum Wage

The start of 2024 marks an increase to the minimum wage from $15 to $16 for workers in NYC and Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. In all other areas of the state, the wage increased from $14.20 to $15. Note that home care aides are subject to a separate, higher minimum wage. The downstate home care aide minimum wage increased from $17 to $18.55 and from $16.20 to $17.55 in the rest of the state. For areas subject to wage parity requirements, the home care wage increase is accompanied by a decrease of $1.55 in the benefit portion of the wage parity amount.

The minimum wage will further increase at set amounts at the start of 2025 and 2026. After that, increases will be based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners (CPI-W).

The Department of Labor (DOL) minimum wage poster is available here; the one for non-profit home care is here. A set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the minimum wage is available here, and a home care minimum wage fact sheet is here.
