Data Exchange Incentive Program Expands to Cover Long-Term/Post-Acute Care Providers

The New York State Department of Health (DOH) has expanded the Data Exchange Incentive Program (DEIP) to support activities that enable medical professionals and hospitals to connect to the State Health Information Network of New York (SHIN-NY) and exchange health information with other providers. The expanded program will make available up to $10,000 in incentive funding per organization (in accordance with eligibility and program requirements) to nursing homes, hospice programs, home care agencies, and behavioral health providers. Limited funding is available, and this program is operated on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is funded through a combination of state and federal funds, with federal funds covering 90 percent of the costs.

The New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) is hosting a webinar to provide information on the expanded DEIP. The webinar will be presented live on Feb. 2nd from 10 to 11 a.m., and Feb. 7th from 1 to 2 p.m. It will cover:

  • DEIP program basics;
  • Eligibility requirements;
  • Data contribution requirements;
  • Program milestones;
  • Payment milestones;
  • QE contacts; and
  • How to get started.

To register for the Feb. 2nd program, click here. To register for the Feb. 7th program, click here. We understand that the webinar will be recorded, and we will circulate a link to the recording once it becomes available.

Under state regulations adopted last year, all nursing homes, home care agencies, and hospice programs that utilize certified EHRs must connect to the SHIN-NY through a regional health information organization by March 9, 2018. The DEIP may provide a down payment for some providers to begin the process of meeting this new requirement.
