Third Master Plan for Aging Town Hall to Be Held in Plattsburgh July 12th

The NYS Department of Health (DOH) and Office for the Aging (SOFA) will host the third Master Plan for Aging (MPA) Town Hall on July 12, 2023 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Stafford Theatre on the Clinton Community College campus in Plattsburgh, allowing the public further opportunity to learn more about and weigh in on the State’s coordinated effort to lead the nation in age- and disability-friendly policy. Registration is required for in-person attendance. Those not attending in person may view the event by registering here.

Previous Town Halls, held in NYC in early June and in Albany on July 11th, highlighted the need for every agency and stakeholder to engage and re-envision their strategies to foster healthy aging throughout the lifespan for all New Yorkers. At each of these events, after hearing from local leaders and reviewing the progress made so far on the MPA, Adam Herbst (Deputy Commissioner on Aging and Long-Term Care, DOH) opened the floor to comments and questions from those in the live audience or watching online.

Governor Hochul signed Executive Order 23 in November 2022 calling for the development of an MPA to improve the lives of today’s older adults and to create a better system of care across the lifespan. The State has since gained momentum by establishing a Stakeholder Advisory Committee and issue-focused subcommittees that will drive stakeholder recommendations.

By soliciting public feedback via Town Halls, surveys, and additional outreach, Deputy Commissioner Herbst noted, the State will be better able to incorporate the needs and solutions most appropriate for each community into the final, statewide MPA. To this end, additional questions, ideas, and concerns can always be sent to MPATownHall@health.ny.gov.
