DataPoint: Staffing Distribution in Long Term Care Settings

In 2016, aides accounted for 59 percent of nursing home staff, 76 percent of residential care community staff, and 39 percent of adult day services center staff during the National Study of Long-Term Care (LTC) Providers. Of the five nursing, activities, and social work staff positions surveyed, aides represented the highest staffing percentage in each LTC sector. Additionally, registered nurses represented 13 percent of nursing home and 15 percent of adult day services staff. Social work and activity directors represented a higher staffing percentage in adult day services centers than other major LTC sectors.

Data from the National Study of Long-Term Care Providers was compiled by the National Center for Health Statistics and is available here.
