DataPoint: LTC Scorecard

In a state assessment of long-term services and supports (LTSS) for older adults funded by AARP Foundation, The Commonwealth Fund, and The SCAN Foundation, New York State ranked 20th nationwide in 2017, up from 25th in 2014. The assessment graded states on affordability, choice of setting, quality of life, support for family caregivers, and effective transitions. The 2017 state scorecard ranked New York in the top quartile in the Support for Family Caregivers category. New York and Tennessee showed the greatest improvements nationwide in overall long term care performance. Additionally, the LTSS assessment classified New York as one of five states (along with Hawaii, Kentucky, Vermont, and New Hampshire) that trended toward making nursing home care more affordable.
