DataPoint: 2017 Daily Cost of Care

Based on the 2017 Genworth Cost of Care Study, the median daily cost of a private nursing home room in New York State rose to $385, which was nearly 31 percent higher than the nationwide median cost ($267). The study suggests that daily nursing home costs will grow by 15.8 percent within five years. Of the 19 New York State regions analyzed in the study, only three reported median private pay costs lower than $350 per day for nursing home private room daily expenses. Manhattan’s $591 daily cost was the state’s most expensive, while Ithaca’s $318 per day cost was the least. Median Assisted Living private pay costs were $131 per day statewide. The highest daily Assisted Living expenses occurred in the Watertown region, which was the only region over $200 per day. The 2017 Genworth Cost of Care Study also revealed that Adult Day Health Care costs exceeded $100 per day in six regions; of those regions, only the Utica and Kingston areas were located upstate.
