DataPoint: 2016 Medicaid Spending
During the 2016 Federal Fiscal Year (Oct. 1, 2015-Sept. 30, 2016) national Medicaid spending reached over $553 billion. Fee-For-Services (FFS) Long-Term Care accounted for 21 percent of total Medicaid spending. In New York, 24 percent ($15 billion) of the state’s $62 billion Medicaid dollars was spent on to FFS Long-Term Care. Medicaid spending for nursing facility services was $6 billion dollars which represented 45 percent of New York’s FFS Long-Term Care spending and 11 percent of New York’s overall Medicaid FFS Long-Term Care spending. New York’s percentage of nursing facility Medicaid spending during fiscal year 2016 ranked 21st nationally and behind neighboring states Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
