Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine for 18+ Officially Approved by FDA and CDC

On Jan. 31, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially approved Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 18 years of age and older. The FDA announcement is available here. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will be known as Spikevax on the private market. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) have also approved the vaccine. Final approval comes after an exhaustive review of the scientific evidence demonstrating safety and effectiveness. Individuals who have been waiting for this approval process to conclude should now have the confidence they need to regard the vaccine as safe and effective.
