NYS Grant Opportunities Available Involving Workforce, Mentorship, and Food Programs

LeadingAge NY members should be aware of three available NYS grant opportunities with upcoming application deadlines:

  1. Mentorship in Medicine and Other Health Professions Initiative 2024-2029 – Applications Due Aug. 31, 2023

OMH-HDP announces the availability of funds to support its Mentorship in Medicine and Other Health Professions Initiative 2024-2029. The purpose of this funding is to support activities and approaches designed to contribute toward the reduction of barriers by promoting an increase in the number of economically disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students who elect to pursue careers in medicine and health related professions to become physicians and other health care professionals.

  1. Workforce Retention Grant Program – Applications Due Sept. 15, 2023

The goal of the Workforce Retention Grant Program is to support the early childhood education and child care workforce by providing funds for staff retention bonuses and recruitment activities. Only eligible child care programs can apply for the grant, individual staff cannot apply. Legally exempt programs are not eligible for this funding. The Workforce Retention Grant Program Solicitation of Interest (SOI) is for eligible New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensed/registered School-Age Child Care Programs (SACC), Day Care Centers (DCC), Family Day Care Homes (FDC), Group Family Day Care Homes (GFDC), Small Day Care Centers (SDCC) and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) permitted Article 47 Group Day Care Centers (GDC). Utilizing ARPA, CRRSA, and state support, a total of $500M will be made available for programs applying from July 26, 2023 through September 15, 2023.

  1. Commodity Supplemental Food Program (RFA # 20339) Applications Due Sept. 28, 2023

The New York State (NYS) Department of Health (Department) announces the availability of funding of $4,300,000.00 annually for five (5) years to implement the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) in the New York City and Long Island areas. CSFP works to improve the health of low-income residents 60 years of age and older by supplementing their diets with nutritious foods provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The Department is seeking applications from agencies to determine eligibility of applicants, manage participant caseload, receive and store USDA commodities, distribute supplemental foods, and provide nutrition education and health care referrals to eligible participants.
