NHSN Influenza Immunization Reporting Reminder

(April 8, 2025) It's that time of year again to be thinking about the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) health care personnel (HCP) influenza reporting requirement for all skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), due May 15th. This data must be provided on the HCP Influenza Vaccination Summary Form. This includes any personnel who are physically present in the facility for at least one working day from Oct. 1st through March 31st. SNFs are reminded that this information does factor into the Quality Reporting Program (QRP) data and does have significant negative impact if you do not complete it.

The three categories of HCP that need to be reported are employees; licensed independent practitioners, such as non-employee physicians, advanced practice nurses, and physician assistants; and adult students/trainees and volunteers aged 18 and over. NHSN includes an option to enter vaccination data for other contract personnel and vendors, but this data is not currently required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Linked here are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) HCP Influenza Summary Reporting Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), which were updated for last year's survey and reflect the most current information available at this time, as there has been no information shared about this existing requirement for this year.
