PDPM Updates

On Tues., Dec. 11th, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted a call to discuss the new Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) being implemented for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) on Oct. 1, 2019. The call specifically focused on providing an overview of patient characteristics driving the payment system and the important distinctions between the current system (RUG-IV) and PDPM. The changes to PDPM are described in further detail in slides provided by CMS. After the presentation, during a question and answer period, CMS confirmed that it would be tracking therapy minutes both before and after the Oct. 1, 2019 enactment of PDPM to monitor the potential for payment incentives being applied in therapy coding. For more information on PDPM, please see LeadingAge NY's summary memo or visit the dedicated PDPM webpage here.
