Nursing Home Managed Care Transition Delayed to Feb. 1, 2015

LeadingAge NY learned that the start of mandatory enrollment in Medicaid managed care plans of new, permanently placed nursing home residents on Medicaid will be further delayed to Feb. 1, 2015 for the downstate region. This is initial information that we have just received, and are currently seeking official confirmation with additional details.

Our understanding at this time is that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has given verbal approval to the State to allow the transition to occur. However, the Department of Health (DOH) is implementing this one-month delay in order to allow for receipt of approved written terms and conditions from CMS.

Therefore, in New York City, Long Island and Westchester, mandatory enrollment in managed care for new, permanent residents is being postponed from  Jan. 1 to Feb. 1, 2015. The assumption is that the rest of State would begin the transition six months later. We will advise members regarding the rest of State once we receive official verification from DOH.
