New Nursing Home Closure Guidelines Issued
(July 22, 2025) The Department of Health (DOH) released new nursing home closure guidelines today, July 22nd, requiring the submission of more detailed information than the prior guidelines. Like the prior guidelines, the new guidelines require any home that is planning to close to provide the Department with notice 90 days prior to the intended closure date and secure approval of the Commissioner of Health prior to notifying staff, residents, or the public of the impending closure. The guidelines include detailed steps for the notice, submission of the closure plan, securing written approval, implementing the plan, and fulfilling post-closure responsibilities.
The new guidelines also include provisions for adult day health care (ADHC) programs and transitional care units.
The Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) is posted here, and the guidelines are available here.
