CMS Releases PACE Final Audit Protocol

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that the final audit protocol for Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) has been approved and posted to the CMS website. The protocol and supporting data collection instruments (CMS-10630) will be used for PACE audits beginning in 2023 and are available for download here

PACE organizations are highly encouraged to review this protocol, including the data and documentation requests, in preparation for any upcoming audits. CMS’s PACE audits will focus on the criteria listed in the protocols, but may also review factors not specifically addressed in the protocol if auditors discover other related requirements are not being met. The provider notification stresses that while PACE organizations will be expected to fully comply with the audit protocol and the associated data collection efforts, compliance is not a substitute for a review of the applicable statutes or regulations.
