HUD Section 202 Advocacy Needed
Congressional committees are beginning to write spending bills for fiscal year 2014. We are advocating for at least $400 million for Section 202 affordable housing programs for elders. This amount is less than half of the funding Section 202 received in fiscal year 2010.
Please contact your members of Congress as soon as possible to make them aware of the need to include this funding in the HUD spending bill for fiscal year 2014 by clicking here.
Last week, 22 senators signed onto a “Dear Colleague” letter urging Senate Appropriations Chair Patty Murray and Ranking Member Susan Collins to fund the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program at the president’s request of $400 million. LeadingAge New York would like to thank Senator Schumer who joined in signing this advocacy letter.
This level of funding includes funding for existing projects and $20 million for a project rental assistance demonstration to support an estimated 3,400 new units of housing for very low-income elderly. The letter also asked to restore the proposed $40 million cut to the Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program.
