HUD Remedies Most Late Subsidy Payments for June; 10 Percent Remain Unpaid

(June 16, 2025) On June 12th, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reported to LeadingAge that 900 of the 1,000 late Section 8 Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract subsidy payments for June have gone out for payment – meaning most of LeadingAge’s affordable senior housing provider members who were impacted by subsidy delays should either now see the funding or see it scheduled for payment in the system.

However, HUD also informed LeadingAge that there are still around 100 contracts that the agency is working to resolve for June. HUD is scheduling those remaining contracts for payment this week.

HUD said that the continued delay is due to HAP subsidy (voucher) submissions being received late or higher than usual, prompting additional agency review.

If LeadingAge members have still not seen any subsidy payments scheduled for June, they should let LeadingAge know as soon as possible by sending the property name, address, contract number, and point of contact to Juliana Bilowich, LeadingAge’s Senior Director of Housing Operations and Policy. Members are asked not to send this information if they have already received their payments or see payments scheduled.

If housing providers have not yet received the subsidy for June and need to cover costs in the meantime, they can consider requesting a Reserve for Replacement draw. LeadingAge members have reported quick turnaround time from HUD in approving loans from reserves.
