This two-part webinar will explore fair housing issues impacting older adults in federally assisted housing.

The call is open to LeadingAge members in the HUD Northeast Region. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Revoking the eviction notification requirement for non-payment of rent will revert HUD programs to a patchwork of federal, state, and local notification timelines.

HUD proposes that PHAs and MFH owners be able to terminate assistance for non-compliance with work requirements or time limits. If the rule advances as proposed, older adults would be exempt, but family members, caregivers, and aging services workers could lose housing.

LeadingAge had supported the notification requirements as an avenue to improving housing stability among HUD-assisted older adult households and will work with its membership on comments that express opposition to the requirements’ revocation.

HUD’s proposed “mixed status” rule would end permanent rent proration; impose new documentation requirements; and risk displacing older adults and immigrant families from stable, affordable housing.

Overall, LeadingAge is pleased with the result of its advocacy to prevent steep cuts to HUD programs and to protect critical affordable housing programs for older adults.
