ACL Announces New Elder Justice Funding Opportunities Addressing APS, Legal Assistance, and Guardianships
The Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) Office of Elder Justice and Adult Protective Services (APS) has announced four new funding opportunities addressing topics including APS to community-based services transitions, opioids and substance use disorders, legal assistance, and guardianships/conservatorships. All of the opportunities have an anticipated start date of Sept. 1, 2022.
Funding opportunities open to entities including state, local, and tribal governments; community-based and faith-based organizations; hospitals; and institutions of higher education:
- Elder Justice Innovation Grants – Improving Results for APS Clients: ACL plans to award up to 20 two-year cooperative agreements of between $300,000 and $1 million per year. Funding will be used to assess and understand the various community services that produce better outcomes for people transitioning from short-term APS interventions to broader community-based programs that remediate and prevent recurrence of abuse over the longer term. Applicants do not need to be an APS program, but at a minimum must have a letter of commitment from a partnering/collaborating APS program. Applications are due May 6, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. ET.
- Elder Justice Innovation Grants – Enhancing APS Approaches to Cases Involving Opioids and Substance Use Disorders: ACL plans to award up to 20 two-year cooperative agreements of between $300,000 and $1 million per year. Funding will be used to identify effective strategies and solutions that are expected to maximize the impact of direct home and community-based social, health, and mental/behavioral health services for APS clients impacted by the opioid epidemic and by other substance use disorders. Applicants do not need to be an APS program, but at a minimum must have a letter of commitment from a partnering/collaborating APS program. Applications are due May 3, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. ET.
- Legal Assistance Enhancement Program: ACL plans to award approximately eight grants of between $150,000 and $250,000 per year for up to three years. Funding will be used to increase the effectiveness of legal assistance provided to older adults, including by breaking down barriers to accessing legal assistance, increasing the availability of legal assistance (especially for historically underrepresented populations of older adults), and enhancing the efficacy of legal assistance to meet the evolving needs of older adults. Applications are due May 3, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. ET.
Funding opportunity open to the highest court in a state:
- Elder Justice Innovation Grants – Improving Guardianships: ACL plans to award up to 20 three-year cooperative agreements of between $150,000 and $1 million per year. Funding will be used to assess and implement improvements in the handling of the adult guardianship and conservatorship process. Applications are due May 6, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. ET.
