OASIS-D Changes Announced in Dear Administrator Letter

The Department of Health (DOH) recently informed Certified Home Health Agencies (CHHAs) and Long Term Home Health Care Programs (LTHHCPs) in a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) of several changes coming to the OASIS Data Set. The changes will be effective Jan. 1, 2019 and will be effective for assessments with a M0900 Date Assessment completed on or after Jan. 1st.

This directive, required by the Improving Medicare Post-Acute Care Transformation Act of 2014 (IMPACT Act), requires post-acute care providers to report standardized patient assessment data and quality measure data. This will, in turn, improve patient outcomes, provide access to comparable data across post-acute care settings, improve discharge, and research.

Changes include six new standardized items, seven revised items, and the removal of 28 items to reduce data collection.

Please see the DAL, which provides a summary of the requirements, access to the OASIS-D Guidance Manual, and several training and resource options.
