DOH Reminds Home Care and Hospice on Emergency Preparedness

The Department of Health (DOH) posted a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) on emergency preparedness requirements for home care and hospice providers. The guidance reiterates what to include in an emergency plan and cites the regulations for all Certified Home Health Agencies (CHHAs), Licensed Home Care Services Agencies (LHCSAs), Long Term Home Health Care Programs (LTHHCPs), and hospices to follow.

The DAL details what to include in the Emergency Preparedness plan, the importance of the Health Commerce System (HCS) during the emergency, emergency response drills, home care emergency response surveys (HERDS), patient classification levels, and the transportation assistance level (TAL) scale. It also includes links to emergency preparedness training, tools, and resources.

Any questions about the DAL should be sent to homecare@health.ny.gov.
