DOH Provides Webinar on Requirements of ACFs in Emergencies

On Nov. 1st, the Department of Health (DOH) Division of Adult Care Facility (ACF) and Assisted Living Surveillance and Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Systems hosted a joint presentation entitled Requirements of Adult Care Facilities in Emergencies. The slides can be accessed here, and a recording of the presentation is here.

The presentation outlined the respective responsibilities of ACFs and EMS and highlighted some of the challenges that are encountered. The Department characterized this presentation as a first step in what they see as a series of discussions. The purpose was to ensure that both parties had an understanding of the requirements and expectations for each provider and encourage greater communication and collaboration. In the examples noted, many of the challenges members face were highlighted. The scenarios raised broader questions for how resident wishes can be honored, while also keeping people in the least restrictive environment possible.

LeadingAge NY appreciates that these are complex issues and will encourage further dialogue on this topic to provide greater clarity and understanding. Any members interested in working on these issues should contact us using the information below.
