DOH Issues ACF DALs on Personal Needs Allowance and Cold Weather

The Department of Health (DOH) has issued two Dear Administrator Letters (DALs) for adult care facilities (ACFs).

The first is guidance to operators regarding the Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) for residents who are in receipt of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and/or State Supplement Program (SSP) benefits. The DAL provides information on the requirements regarding those funds and provides relevant contact information for the Social Security Administration (SSA) and for the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). Any ACF that serves SSI recipients is urged to review the DAL carefully.

The second DAL is DOH’s annual cold weather advisory, which reminds ACFs of their regulatory responsibilities and certain considerations and precautions to take in serving their residents. Once again, members are encouraged to review the DAL to ensure the safety and well-being of your residents during the months to come.
