Protecting Residents from Financial Exploitation

Our colleagues at LeadingAge reported this week on a new manual from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, entitled Protecting Residents from Financial Exploitation.  The manual provides guidance to assisted living and nursing homes on how to recognize, manage, and prevent financial exploitation of residents. LeadingAge staff reviewed and commented on drafts of the manual, and will be providing educational programs for members to utilize the manual later this year.

"As stewards and leaders in not-for-profit aging services, it is vital that LeadingAge members understand how they can protect residents from financial exploitation," says Marsha Greenfield, LeadingAge's vice president of legislative affairs. "We hope that members will review and implement this guide with their employees as a way to improve their residents' quality of life."  Click here for more information.
