LeadingAge NY Participates in Second ALP Hospice Work Group Meeting

On May 16th, LeadingAge NY participated in the second of several work group meetings developed out of the legislation we worked to pass that would enable Medicaid-eligible assisted living program (ALP) residents to access hospice care. The work group, which is required in the legislation, is being convened to make recommendations as to coordination and division of services, responsibilities, and reimbursement. LeadingAge NY was selected to serve on the group. Click here for more background.

During this discussion, LeadingAge NY again highlighted the work that was done in the past in conjunction with our colleagues. The discussion was very positive, and the Department of Health (DOH) and other parties agreed to return with insight from the NYS Medicaid State Plan, as well as the nursing home and hospice contract. Other issues that were noted were looking at ways to clearly delineate the service and financial responsibilities of each party. LeadingAge NY will continue to work with our partners on these issues. We will report to members the developments of this work group and will seek member feedback to inform our efforts. We look forward to resolving this longstanding access issue.
