Home Care Changes and Implications for ALP

The Department of Health (DOH) recently issued a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) announcing that nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) are now able to sign home care orders. Click here for more information. LeadingAge NY has long been advocating for physician extenders to be able to sign medical evaluations and orders for Medicaid assisted living program (ALP) residents. We have inquired with DOH regarding the implication of this policy change for ALPs and encouraged the adoption particularly in light of the workforce challenges and need for flexibility. The Department is reviewing the matter; we will apprise members of any new developments.
