LEADINGAGE NEW YORK AND THE HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK ANNOUNCE AFFILIATION TO SUPPORT PROVIDERS OF LONG TERM CARE AND SERVICES

Latham, NY (10/28/14) –LeadingAge New York and the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York today announced a groundbreaking affiliation agreement that strengthens their ability to support providers of important care to New York’s elderly. This agreement also includes access to many products and services available from national affiliate, LeadingAge.

Under the changing landscape of health care in New York, providers of vital services to people in need of long term care, housing and services are seeking ways to increase efficiency, reduce spending and increase quality. Under the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment System (DSRIP), new models are being created leading to larger collaborations among hospital systems and related community services including hospice and palliative care. The new affiliation agreement was crafted to support members of both associations in their efforts to provide quality services to New Yorkers.

“Associations serving providers of long term care and services need to create membership models that provide value to these systems without breaking the bank,” said James Clyne, CEO of LeadingAge New York. “Offering more products and services to members under one membership is important if associations are to be sustainable and valuable in a changing world.”

“The ultimate beneficiaries are residents, patients and families that our members exist to serve,” Clyne said.

At no additional cost, members of each association can access programs and services of both associations including: advocacy; educational programing; member rates for audios, events and conferences; data analytics; vital information from both associations; technical assistance related to state and federal legislative and regulatory issues; and superb pricing on contracts through Value First, which is LeadingAge’s group purchasing organization. The development of an analytical tool that will allow hospice palliative care providers to benchmark themselves against others is also an intended outcome of this affiliation.

The Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York State is a not-for-profit organization representing hospice and palliative care programs, allied organizations and individuals that are interested in the development and growth of quality, comprehensive end-of-life services. Founded in 1978 as the New York State Hospice Association, the organization changed its name to Hospice and Palliative Care Association in 2000 to better reflect its role in fostering accessible, quality end-of-life care. The Association is headquartered in Albany, NY and serves members statewide.

Founded in 1961, LeadingAge New York is the only statewide organization representing the entire continuum of not-for-profit, mission-driven, and public continuing care, including senior housing, nursing home, adult care facility, continuing care retirement community, assisted living, home care, adult day care, community services providers and provider-based Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) and Programs of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
