ICYMI: LeadingAge NY Testifies at State Senate Hearing on Long Term Care Workforce

On July 27th, LeadingAge NY testified at the New York State Senate’s Public Hearing on Nursing Home, Assisted Living, and Home Care Workforce – Challenges and Solutions. Sarah Daly, government relations analyst, provided the testimony and was joined by member Matt Hetterich of Gurwin Healthcare System, representing their Certified Home Health Agency and Gurwin’s full continuum of care.

LeadingAge NY’s written testimony addressed the State's historic lack of investment in the long term care system, its outdated Medicaid reimbursement rates, and longstanding, significant workforce challenges across the continuum that were recently exacerbated by COVID-19. It recommended several spending options to strengthen worker wages, supports and training, and offered regulatory and scope of practice changes to facilitate a more streamlined workforce.

Members can access LeadingAge NY’s written testimony here and a clip of Sarah’s in-person comments here. Matt Hetterich’s written and in-person testimony can be accessed here and here. A recording of the full eight-hour hearing is available here.
