Join LeadingAge for Congressional Fly-In on Immigration and Workforce
(Aug. 11, 2026) LeadingAge national, in partnership with LeadingAge state partners, is hosting a workforce/immigration focused Congressional Fly-In on Sept. 22–23, 2026, in Washington, D.C. LeadingAge NY members are encouraged to join a small group of advocates on Capitol Hill to meet directly with members of Congress and their staff on the immigration policy issues most affecting your workforce.
As America’s population ages and older adults’ and families’ need for care and services grows, the pool of available U.S. employees cannot keep pace with demand. Foreign-born workers are essential to ensuring providers’ ability to deliver quality care and services, and ensuring Congress understands the role immigration plays in our sector’s workforce is a top priority for LeadingAge national. Policies impacting temporary protected status (TPS), Supreme Court rulings, and changes to employment authorization deadlines dominate the current news cycle—and highlight the larger story: how will we fill the positions needed to meet the demand for care in the years to come?
The connection between immigration policy and aging services long-term workforce capacity and stability has never been more visible or more consequential: without staff, there is no care or services. Immigration policy has a direct impact on the availability of workers, providers’ ability to recruit and retain talent in sufficient numbers, and sustain a qualified staff over the long-term.
Congress is considering a range of proposals that could affect providers, including changes to employment-based immigration pathways, work authorization policies, visa processing, and other workforce-related measures. As these debates continue, it is essential that lawmakers hear directly from providers about the realities of operating in today's labor market and the practical policy solutions that can help strengthen the caregiving workforce. Your voices and stories are critical.
