LTC Providers Must Attest to Employer Status to Hire Staff from Career Pathways Training Program
(July 1, 2025) LeadingAge NY reminds members that there are opportunities for both staff and long term care employers under the State's Career Pathways Training (CPT) program, which falls under the State’s 1115 NY Health Equity Reform Waiver.
The Workforce Investment Organizations (WIOs) implementing the program – 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds, Iroquois Healthcare Association, and Finger Lakes Performing Provider System – are receiving up to $646 million over the next three years to implement the program. The program’s intent is to strengthen the health care workforce across the state by providing education, training, and job placement support to both those newly entering the workforce and those looking to advance their careers.
The CPT program is divided into two career pipelines: Career Advancement for individuals currently working in health, behavioral health, or social care, and New Careers for those newly entering the health workforce.
Back in November, LeadingAge NY hosted a webinar, Meet the WIOs: An Introduction to the Career Pathways Training Program for Long-Term Care Providers, with leaders from the three WIOs. The WIOs presented their implementation plans for the CPT program to build the health care workforce by offering tuition, worker supports, backfill pay, and other services for individuals interested in entering health care and those interested in pursuing advanced roles. Members can learn more from the webinar slides posted here and the recording here.
Individuals participating in the CPT program must make a three-year commitment to work at a NYS Medicaid-enrolled provider that serves at least 30 percent Medicaid members and/or uninsured individuals.
Long term care providers wishing to receive employee referrals under the program must complete a participating provider attestation, which can be completed through your area WIO.
Interested parties should note that nursing students will be required to enroll for September 2025 in order to complete their training by the spring of 2027.
Members are encouraged to connect with the WIOs to assist with recruitment of trainees and ensure future placement of staff under the CPT program. For questions, comments, or to make a formal connection with your local WIO, please feel free to contact the presenters:
