LeadingAge New York Encourages DOH to Use Other Methods to Encourage Vaccination

DOH issued proposed regulations that would require staff and volunteers working in hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic and treatment centers, hospices, home care agencies and assisted living programs (by virtue of having a home care agency) who have not received a flu vaccination to wear a surgical or procedure mask in areas where patients may be present. LeadingAge New York responded to the proposed regulations, supporting DOH’s efforts to address this serious public health issue, but raising concerns about the approach. LeadingAge New York is committed to working with DOH and our members on this issue. We will inform members when DOH’s analysis of public comment on the proposed regulation is complete. Click here to view a press release regarding the proposal. The proposed regulation can be found in the February 13 State Register, beginning on page 36. LeadingAge New York’s comments can be viewed here.
