Sprinkler Systems in Nursing Homes

ABSTRACT: DOH issues information and timeline regarding 2013 requirement.

CMS published a final rule in August 2008 announcing the amendment of regulations concerning nursing home fire safety requirements requiring all nursing homes to be protected throughout by a supervised automatic sprinkler system.  Compliance with this requirement must occur no later then August 13, 2013.  DOH has issued a Dear Administrator letter outlining steps nursing homes must take with regard to the sprinkler requirements.  These steps include completing a survey on the HPN, submitting a design, funding and installation plan, and submitting a Certificate of Need (CON) application.  The Dear Administrator letter is attached.
