LeadingAge Provides Analysis of Government Shutdown

Acknowledging and thanking members for their efforts in lobbying Congress to end the federal government shutdown, LeadingAge is also providing an analysis of the bill that ended the shutdown.  H.R. 2775 was passed with bi-partisan support by both houses of Congress and signed by the President on Oct. 16.  This continuing resolution (CR) funds federal agencies through Jan. 15, 2014 and raises the debt ceiling through Feb. 7, 2014.  Obviously, this is at best a short term fix as characterized by the popular media expression, “kicking the can down the road.”  Providers should be prepared to confront the federal budget issues again in the coming weeks and months.

According to LeadingAge: “The immediate impact of the bill is to avert crises in aging-services programs if federal funding were to be completely suspended. There are no payment or system changes to the Medicare or Medicaid programs.”
