FDA Issues New Guidance on Bed Rail Safety

The FDA and CPSC have provided information on the FDA site on bed rail safety. The guidance for providers includes the links to FDA Guidance “Hospital Bed System Dimensional and Assessment Guidance to Reduce Entrapment” for health care facilities and manufacturers, and the “Clinical Guidance for the Assessment and Implementation of Bed Rails in Hospitals, Long Term Care Facilities and Home Care Settings,” developed by the Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup (HBSW), the FDA partnership with representatives from the hospital bed industry, national health care organizations including LeadingAge, patient advocacy groups, CMS, and other federal agencies.
