Protect Access to Home Health Care
(Aug. 26, 2025) Public comment is due on Fri., Aug. 29th to voice opposition to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 2026 Proposed Payment Rule for Certified Home Health Agencies (CHHAs). The rule calls for a proposed 9% reduction in Medicare fee-for-service payments for home health in 2026 and will mean over $1.1 billion in cuts to providers, which will threaten access for older adults who rely on such care to remain in their homes. The impact, when combined with the -8.8% payment reductions the agency has implemented since Calendar Year (CY) 2023, will be significant to all providers of home health care – but nonprofit providers are particularly at risk. CMS’s proposed cuts would severely impact access to lifesaving home-based care, while failing to fix real issues in the system, like fraud, waste, and abuse.
