DOH Offers Universal Safety Training to ACFs and Nursing Homes
(Feb. 10, 2026) The Department of Health (DOH) has announced a two-part In-Person Universal Safety Training on March 17, 2026 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and April 6, 2026 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at 875 Central Avenue, Albany. DOH is offering the course to adult care facility (ACF) and nursing home providers.
Course participants will learn de-escalation techniques, understand the impact of trauma, and demonstrate effective defense techniques. This training has historically been made available to other provider types in the Office of Mental Health (OMH) and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) sectors, and DOH felt it could be useful for those who are encountering challenging situations with people they serve.
Classes are limited to 35 participants. Facility staff are welcome and encouraged to register. All participants must attend both sessions.
DOH requires providers to pre-register here.
DOH is also interested in providing additional opportunities to access this training in the future, should there be sufficient interest. We welcome member feedback on this.
